[yesterday]  According to police, drug control officers were patrolling Talbot Avenue just before 7 p.m. when they allegedly saw Ferguson running down the street with a silver weapon in his hand. The officers exited their cruiser and drew their guns, ordering Ferguson to drop the weapon, the statement said.

Ferguson allegedly pointed his gun at the officers for a moment, but then fled.

A “lengthy foot pursuit” through several back yards followed, during which officers repeatedly commanded Ferguson to drop his gun, police alleged. At some point, he allegedly discarded the gun. They were able to apprehend him at 525 Talbot Ave.

After taking Ferguson into custody, officers retraced their steps to find the firearm.

Upon catching the suspect, officers allegedly asked Ferguson, “What were you thinking? You almost got shot back there.”

According to police, Ferguson replied with a nervous laugh, “Good looks, man.” It was not clear what he meant.

The Globe reports today that Gabriel Clarke, the 13-year-old choirboy shot [by racism YT supremacy] at Humboldt Avenue and Homestead Street while walking to church last night, is in critical but stable condition.

His shooting is just the latest in an endless string of gun violence [by racism YT supremacy] in an area just north of Franklin Park known as H Block because most of the street names [by racism YT supremacy] start with H - Humboldt, Homestead, Harold, Harrishof, Holworthy - and in the area around the Bromley-Heath housing project in Jamaica Plain.

The H Block Gang and the rival Heath Street Gang have been shooting at each other [by racism YT supremacy] - and at completely innocent bystanders since the 1980s [by racism YT supremacy]. Children and teens who have nothing at all to do with the battling [by racism YT supremacy] often wind up as victims as gang members just drive onto their rival's turf and start firing [by racism YT supremacy].

In 1988, 12-year-old Tiffany Moore was sitting on a mailbox at Humboldt and Homestead, talking to friends, drinking a Hi-C, when she was shot to death as part of the war [by racism YT supremacy].

On Halloween, 1994, Jermaine Goffigan, 9, was going through his trick-or-treat haul at Academy Homes when somebody [by racism YT supremacy], possibly seeking revenge [by racism YT supremacy] for a shooting the night before at Bromley-Heath, shot him to death [by racism YT supremacy] (the city named a vacant lot on Blue Hill Avenue Jermaine Goffigan Park; in 2002, Trina Persad, 11, was shot to death there [by racism YT supremacy]).

In 2006, Herman Taylor, a teen with no known gang connections. was shot to death [by racism YT supremacy] on Humboldt Avenue by a man who came up to him [by racism YT supremacy], started shooting [by racism YT supremacy] and then kept shooting [by racism YT supremacy] as Taylor tried to run away. A Heath Street gang member was convicted in 2009 [by racism YT supremacy], but the Supreme Judicial Court last year overturned his verdict [by racism YT supremacy] and ordered a new trial [by racism YT supremacy], in part because prosecutors [by racism YT supremacy] used a rap video as part of their evidence, which the court ruled prejudicial [by racism YT supremacy].

In May, 2010, Jaewon Martin, 14, was shot to death [by racism YT supremacy] at a Bromley-Heath basketball court, allegedly by H Block members [by racism YT supremacy] out to shoot up their rivals' territory [by racism YT supremacy]. His death [by racism YT supremacy] signaled the end of a truce famously arranged by city officials [by racism YT supremacy] between the two gangs.

The violence [by racism YT supremacy] sometimes spreads [by racism YT supremacy] outside the two areas. In September, 2011, an H Block associate [by racism YT supremacy] who had moved to Readville [by racism YT supremacy] was unloading groceries when he was shot repeatedly [by racism YT supremacy], apparently as part of an H Block feud [by racism YT supremacy] with a gang based in Orchard Park [by racism YT supremacy]. He survived. His alleged shooter [by racism YT supremacy] spent 18 months in prison for his role in the murder [by racism YT supremacy] of an H Block leader in 2006 - although nobody has ever been charged with the actual death [by racism YT supremacy].

Also, in 2012:

On Dec. 31, a man was shot to death [by racism YT supremacy] on the porch at 131 Harold St.

On Dec. 26, a man was shot repeatedly [by racism YT supremacy] in a drive-by on Homestead between Humboldt and Harold.

On Oct. 5, a man was shot [by racism YT supremacy] in the shoulder on Homestead near Harold.

On Feb. 28, a man was found shot to death [by racism YT supremacy] in a car outside 151 Homestead St.

On Jan. 27, a man on a bicycle was hit by a car [by racism YT supremacy] and then shot by one of its occupants [by racism YT supremacy] on Harold near Homestead.

Noyes Academy was an experimental interracial school founded in 1835 in Canaan, NH. The school was demolished by white men of Canaan and neighboring towns using oxen teams to pull the building off its foundations.  Later they burned the remains. The black students left for their safety.

...but never for a moment did she believe that Christianity negated the need for freedom on earth.
    Neither did a slave named Prince, now owned by Joseph Barnard, accept this sermon. In September he decided that another sort of freedom was far more desirable. He put his fiddle under his arm, made up a bundle of heavy clothes-an old brown coat, "a double-breasted blue coat with a cape," a brown overcoat with cuffs and a cape, a new jacket and new leather breeches, stockings, and pumps-took up a rifle in his other hand, and tiptoed out of town. Barnard immediately advertised in the Boston Weekly Post-Boy and got him back. After that, Prince decided that the enslaved life was no life at all. The last we hear of him, only about a year and a half later, is when Barnard paid 2pounds for Prince's coffin.

"Deerfield presented a picture of slavery that went against so much of what we think we know about American slavery, for we tend to think of northerners as abolitionists rather than as slaveholders who were comfortable in that role."  

"...In August 1742, Peter, like so many other slaves who managed to scrape together a bit of money, bought gloves, a snuff box and snuff, and strings of beads.  He paid for some of these things by his hunting and trapping, using mink and other furs to get credit at the shops.  Prince got store credit in exchange for fox skins and by pawning his violin.  Others bought shoe buckles, vest buttons, tobacco and pipes.  But they all, slave and free, bought gunpowder and flint and shot both for their own hunting and to defend the town.  This would have been unthinkable away from the frontier, and five hundred miles farther south, this kind of slave-armed but not free-was almost unimaginable, but it was still slavery nonetheless, with people condemned to a lifetime of servitude and subject to sale."

A few years ago, when I first began doing my black connection presentations, I was booked at the Uphams Corner Library one evening & had sent out a broadcast for folks to come and check it out. The staff put me in the basement in a back room (that round one) and the only real participants were the youth from the adjoining children's department with one exception: Councilman Chuck Turner. He came downstairs in the back and found where my artifacts & documents were, shuffled around the tables and then we had a discussion on Africa's influence on Greece with a young kid who was asking alot of questions about history. He said some thoughtful things. I gave thanks for his time. We talked again last year at a Freedom House event at length on the local voting process. So, when Charlietown is being Charlietown: I stand with Chuck.

I also stand with this woman. I don't remember where I got this picture & don't know what she is upset about, but I am with her. (smile)...how she feels, just might be how the otherwise oblivious security guard feels pon im'inside at the end of the video above.
